Getting the Eye Pads on Right – Every Single Time

Eye pads are a necessary part of the lash extension process. Without them, lash technicians simply wouldn’t be able to effectively create the fluffy, full sets of lashes that clients all want. But, getting the eye pads placed just right is an art and one that takes practice, practice, practice.

What are Eye Pads and Why do I Need Them?

Eye pads are used during each eyelash extension application, and the primary purpose is to keep the bottom lashes from the top lashes so that they don’t get stuck together and give the client the (false) impression that their eyes have been glued shut. Eye pads also protect the client’s sensitive under-eye skin from sharp tweezers, and they provide a great drawing board for different lash maps!

What Makes a Quality Eye Pad?

When you’re shopping for eye pads, be sure to look for ones that are sticky enough to keep the bottom lashes isolated, but that aren’t so sticky that you have to rip them off the client when you’re done. That under-eye skin is sensitive and tugging on it is not recommended. You’ll also want light-coloured pads that are coated so that adhesive and cleansers don’t soak through, but that still allows you to draw lash maps. Lint-free eye pads also help reduce irritation.

InfinitiLash sells eye pads that are lint-free, coated, and the perfect amount of sticky. Check out our eye pads and other lash accessories.

Perfect Application Every Time

When it comes to applying eye pads, it takes training and practice. From there, it’s all about technique. There are two ways to apply eye pads:

Eyes Closed:

  • Cleanse the area around the eye, to clean off makeup, dirt, and debris. This will help the pad stick.

  • Instruct the client to close their eyes, but gently enough that you can open the top lid.

  • Place your thumb on the top lid and your index on the bottom lid and gently open the eye. Slide the eye pad in, and on top of the bottom lashes.

  • If one or two lashes are sticking out, stick them down with tape.

  • With the pads in place, ensure your client is comfortable. Ask if the pads feel okay and adjust as necessary. The eye pads must never touch the sclera.

Eyes Open:

  • Cleanse the area around the eye, to clean off makeup, dirt, and debris. This will help the pad stick.

  • Instruct the client to keep their eyes open, and mouth closed.

  • Place the pad on the bottom lashes, then instruct the client to close their eyes.

  • With eyes closed, adjust the pad if necessary.

  • If one or two lashes are sticking out, stick them down with tape.

  • With the pads in place, ensure your client is comfortable. Ask if the pads feel okay and adjust as necessary. The eye pads must never touch the sclera.

It takes practice. It takes time. It takes patience. And, at first, you may have to try a few times before you get the eye pad in the right position. But, as you get more and more experienced, so too will you get better at placing the eye pads perfectly on the first try.
