Give (and Get!) the Gift of Referrals this Holiday Season!


‘Tis the season! The gifts are wrapped and you’re ready to get to the good part – giving presents… and hopefully, you’re getting a couple too. What about your clients? What are you getting them this holiday season?


If you weren’t planning to give your clients a gift, you’re missing out on a big opportunity to make connections, show your gratitude… and earn some new clients in the process. So, what’s better than giving clients a candle or some swag? Give them what they really want this year! A discount.


How Referral Programs Work


There’s a major misconception in the world of professionals that is this: discounts are always bad. Granted, discounts do have their time and place, and should only be used when it’s appropriate. But a referral program is not a “bad” discount. It’s a gift for your clients and a gift for you because you’re both going to get something. Let me explain:


Traditional Referral Programs


Tell your clients that for every referral they make who books and attends a first full set appointment, they’ll get 25% off their next fill. You’ll also match the discount for the new client.


What they got: a 25% discount off your service for their fill – yay! They’re so happy! And their friend got 25% off their first full set. But what about you? You lost that 25% revenue on the fill and the full set… or did you?


What you got: a new client. Sure, they paid 25% less for their set. But they’re coming back for a fill, aren’t they? And guess what? Now they can be part of your referral program. There’s no limit to how many new clients you can get this way. You’ll make back the 25% revenue loss in new-client income in no time.


Reward or Loyalty Programs


Instead of giving discounts for each referral, consider starting up a loyalty program. The discount will have to be greater, but the payoff for you will be more beneficial as well. Perhaps you could start a stamp program where every tenth fill is free.


What they get: A free fill! Wow! How exciting!


What you get: The promise of nine paid-in-full fills, and then the ability to keep clients coming back after they get their tenth free fill. Because guess what? Clients love free stuff. And you love knowing you can count on those paid-for fills in between.


Your Time to Shine


This is your time to show clients how much you love and appreciate them. It’s also your time to shine! When you get those new clients in the door, it’s time to do what you do best – wow them with your stunning lash work. The holiday season is a great time to start up a referral program. Why? Because everybody has holiday parties, work socials, and family gatherings coming up, and they all want to look and feel glamourous!
