Let’s be honest with ourselves and each other: most of us are asking about lash extensions and lifts because we’re all after the same thing: long, luscious, fluffy lashes. We’re all about that curl, that volume, and that drama.
Lash extensions and lash lifts are both enhancements. However, they offer very different effects and use entirely different processes. Not sure which one is right for you? We’ll help you decide.
What is a Lash Lift?
Lash lifting is a technique that essentially perms the lashes, causing them to curl semi-permanently. This is done using specific equipment and curling solutions that all technicians to achieve a lifted look. The result is that lashes are curled and lifted, so the eye looks more open. Despite having done nothing to actually lengthen the lashes, after a lift, the lashes look slightly longer because they are lifted.
Lash Lift Benefits:
· Natural, subtle look
· Creates an open eye
· Lasts anywhere from 4-6 weeks
· No need to get biweekly fills
Lash Lift Drawbacks:
· No impact on lash volume and length
· No opportunity for technicians to cater to your eye shape
· Some individuals are sensitive to the curling solutions, particularly to the strong smell of the curling solutions
· Those seeking anything beyond an extremely subtle change may be left disappointed
· The process does need to be repeated every 4-6 weeks to maintain the lift
Lash Extensions
Unlike lash lifts, lash extensions enhance the natural lashes by adding both length and volume by placing an extension on the natural lash using an adhesive. Technicians can use different lengths and curls to create entirely new lash looks, anywhere from a natural look, to ultra-glam and everything in between.
Lash Extension Benefits:
· The results are much more noticeable – lashes are full and fluffy!
· You can achieve many different looks by choosing different lengths, curls, thicknesses, and even colours!
· Technicians can customize the shape and style of the lashes to compliment your eye shape
· Extensions stay in place until they naturally fall out (in about 2-4 weeks) – no more trying to stick on your strip lashes!
· Make-up ready at all hours of the day – no need for mascara
Lash Extension Drawbacks:
· Some people are sensitive to the adhesive used to apply extensions, causing irritation
· Lash extensions cost more than lash lifts, and need to be maintained more often (every 2-3 weeks)
The Results are In! Lash Extensions are All About Results
When it comes to lash lifts vs. lash extensions, there is no definitive “best choice.” But there is a right choice for you. Lash lifts are a great option if you can’t wear lash extensions for some reason, or you’re seeking an extremely subtle look.
When it comes to volume, length, and wow factor, lash extensions are the obvious choice. Extensions are what’s going to allow you to achieve the make-up-ready look. If you’re going for ultra-glam, lash extensions are the only choice.
When you’re helping your clients decide what is right for them, be sure to go over all the pros and cons, and be very clear that lash lifts are subtle, but lash extensions will get them noticed!
