When it comes to Brand YOU, you are the key ingredient. There is only one you, and when people patronize your business, they’re choosing YOU. When it comes to getting the message of YOU into the world, social media is extremely helpful. The power of social media needs to be part of your overall branding strategy.
When it comes to social media, there are many things clients and potential clients want to see including your story and pictures of you, your hours and prices, and client testimonials. But there’s one thing they want more than anything else: pictures.
If a Picture is Worth 1000 Words, Before & Afters are Priceless
Yes, your clients love to visit your page and see themselves there. If you’re lucky they’ll share it on their own social media, and you’ll get a bit of a boost from that. However, your pictures have the potential to speak volumes to potential clients. These are social-media savvy people who are looking for the best lash technician out there and your photos are the proof they’re looking for. Maximize the power of your pictures by showing clients before and after.
Five Hints for the Best Before & Afters
Make the Lighting Work for You
When it comes to taking a great shot (whether it’s before or after), choose natural light when it’s possible. It’s the most flattering and creates bright, organic pictures. If natural light isn’t accessible, consider a ring light or some good natural white overhead lights. Be sure that you take the picture in a place where there are no shadows from your phone or other room elements.
It’s all About the Angle
It’s time for your client’s close-up…very close-up! Be sure that you take the photo from a flattering angle and one that makes your client look (and feel!) their best. Choose an angle that doesn’t obscure the lashes and be sure that the lashes are in focus. The most impactful before & after shots show just the brows and eyes (open or closed).
Change it Up
There’s nothing more tiresome than visiting a lash technician’s page and scrolling through endless before and after shots that are shot from the same angle. Every. Single. Time. Change it up! Try shooting your clients at different angles, in different environments, with eyes closed or open, and so on so that your page inspires visual interest instead of monotony.
Filters are your Frenemy
Filters are helpful to a point. They can be used to highlight the lashes better or make your client look their best. However, filters need to be used sparingly because they can be cheesy. Many people are getting wise to filters and can spot them easily, so use them only when they serve to enhance the photos, as opposed to simply using them because you can.
Highlight the Star: The Lashes!
The lashes are the star, so they need to be camera ready! When you take your before shot, try to get a good side shot that shows the natural length and curl of the lashes. This is necessary for a good comparison. When it’s time for the after, groom the lashes carefully beforehand so that they’re at their fluffiest! To get a true after shot, the eye pads, tape, residual cleanser, and sealant should all be removed. If you’re choosing to have the client’s eyes open, allow them to wipe any tears away first. If the client has excessively red eyes due to the adhesive fumes, opt for an eyes closed after shot!
